These are some of the notes that I took during the recent seminar and I am sure you will find them enlightening if not helpful!

  • Part 8 - Marketing 101

  • Get yourself out there in front of your clients and the public
    I can't tell you the number of times I've heard people say "I've got great business cards but I don't give them out to just anyone, they cost a lot of money you know" and my response is always "it costs you more money NOT to give them out". You should be giving your business cards to everyone - don't hoard them for your "good" clients or you'll miss business opportunities!
  • Choose a target market and work that market and area and become the expert
    Remember that you can't be everything to everyone so you should target clients to whom you offer a unique appeal, build your marketing campaign around a personality trait that others respond well to, and target your campaign around a normal void in the marketplace.
  • Specialize in your target market area
    You can choose a target market based on several things including age, hobbies, social clubs, children, lifestyle, retirement, location, personality type or price range. The better you serve the specific market you've chosen, the faster you will grow your business.
  • Maintain relationships with your past clients - they liked you years ago, they will like you now too
    How many times have you worked with a client, then the next time they buy or sell you find out they used another agent? That is because you didn't keep in touch. You must database your clients and send them regular marketing pieces. You must also set up reminders to call them periodically.
  • Avoid the Marketing Pitfalls
    Do not follow the crowd (take the time to look at what everyone else is doing and do something different). Don't under spend (don't use cheap materials - this is an investment not a cost). Don't fail to set up systems (you must invest time to set up the right systems NOW so you can keep up when your business grows). Don't procrastinate (Don't spend too long deciding the perfect way to do it. .. just get started)
